British Columbia has been hit by a string of serious avalanche incidents this year. Unfortunately, among these incidents, there have already been four separate fatalities. The most recent of which happened right here in our backyard. I can actually look out my window and see the remains of the class 3 avalanche that killed an American tourist this past Friday.
We just received word from one of our customers in Alaska that his Snowpulse bag saved his life! The details are a little vague, but as far as we know, him and three friends were skinning up a mountain when a slide came down on top of them. Our customer deployed his airbag and ended up going for a ride through some trees. He ended up with his head on the surface, but his body was pinned against a tree and he couldn't move. As the Snowpulse bag deflated, it gave him enough wiggle room to free himself.

[read more]Over the weekend there were another two avalanche fatalities. This time it was a group of heliskiers near Valemount, a group were caught and two were killed. Stay safe out there and ski and sled the flat and tracked. Not the typical spring where you can go anywhere you want and not worry. Avalanche conditions seem best on the coast at this time, things are going to be crappy in the interior of BC for some time to come.

An extremely sad day for the snowmobiling community this past Saturday. Two sledders were killed at the Big Iron shootout in Revelstoke at Turbo. A class 3 avalanche came down and hit a large group of spectators (30-50 people). Find more details here bc.rcmp.ca/ViewPage.action
