Our Avalanche Skills Training Level 2 courses are for those who wish to further their understanding of avalanche safety beyond the basic two-day avalanche course. This is a 5 day stand alone course or a 3 day course if you have already taken an introductory course. This course focuses on enhacing your ability to make good decisions in order to safely travel in the backcountry. Tuition is FREE if you bring along 5 paying friends.

During the course we will review the basics learned in the introductory course, learn more about snow pack structure and weak layers, look at mountain weather, more advanced techniques for travelling safely through avalanche terrain, as well as advanced small group self rescue skills.

This course will ultimately give you more tools and experience to safely enjoy the backcountry. Course tuition includes 3 days of instruction and course materials.

Sign up for one of our scheduled courses or call us about our custom course dates! There must be 4 students for the course to run. You will be notified on the standing of your course in advance.

All participants are required to have for all THREE days:

  1. sled and trailer
  2. appropriate clothing
  3. an avalanche transceiver, probe, and shovel (rentals are available directly from Avalanche Safety)
  4. lunch / snacks / water
